Bursledon Hamble and Hound News for 2013

Leaf clearance – local decision

Heavy rains combine with leaf falls to create flood conditions in our area and 2012 was a particularly bad year for many residents.  The Local Area Committee plans to use £4500 of its budgets to enhance the level of leaf sweeping service across Bursledon, Hamble and Netley from autumn 2013.

 Right down your street

Each year the Local Area Committee spends money on replacing damaged, missing and worn street name signs.  This year the budget is £5000 which is paying for 24 new signs.  But there is a ‘waiting list’ of 50 further signs that need replacing because of needless damage or vandalism.  Please take care of your street signs so that we can spend public money on other things!

 Community Christmas Lantern Parade

Schools and community groups including a number of older people joined forces in the run up to Christmas 2012 to make lanterns that were showed off at a lantern parade finale through Hamble on 19th December.  Teenagers from Hamble Community Sports College taught young and old how to make the lanterns, with support from school staff and Alex Grant from Toozalii Art Company.  The Local Area Committee provided £1000 for the project which ‘levered in’ £4000 from the Lottery.  Many of those involved have already expressed an interest in repeating the project annually.  If you are interested please contact Diccon Bright on 023 8068 8436

You can improve your area

A Plan for Hound Parish

In last year’s survey many residents expressed their satisfaction with Hound as a place to live.  They also identified issues that need addressing, including: speeding traffic and parking, improving the environment, more facilities for young people, volunteering, childcare services and keeping healthy and safe.  The Local Area Committee (LAC) is already tackling some of these issues by funding play areas, installing more litter/dog mess bins, deploying a flashing speed sign, supporting local groups with small grants and ensuring the HYPE youth club stays open. The LAC will be working with residents of Hound Parish and other agencies to continue to improve the area.
